The Boling Ranch Egg-cellent Egg-venture!

This activity was brainstormed by our neighbor, Bambi Offield, and promises to:
            - provide a fun, creative distraction to occupy us over the upcoming week.
            - help us continue to build a sense of community and mutual support.
            - head off feelings of social isolation.
            - get folks safely out of their homes for a walk (or a drive) around our beautiful neighborhood.
            - celebrate the hope and joy of Easter/Passover/Passion Week.

What is this great activity?
Decorate your yard with over-sized eggs, then we'll have a one-afternoon challenge for folks to walk (or drive) through the neighborhood (while maintaining social distancing) and count the eggs. Whoever comes the closest to the egg-xact count, wins a $100 Amazon gift certificate (safely emailed to them)! Plus we'll vote for the house with the "Most Egg-cellent Display" and they will win another $100 Amazon gift certificate!

If you want to join in the fun...
You have all day Saturday, April 11, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., to walk (or drive) through the neighborhood and count the over-sized eggs. Be sure to look for mailboxes with a sign attached saying "This is an Egg-cellent Home!"--those are the houses that are displaying eggs to be counted. Egg counters must stay on the street--so that those who feel safer driving or are unable to walk long distances are equally able to participate. Do not walk into yards! And please be sure to keep socially distanced from other neighbors.

By 8 p.m. on Saturday, send an email to danndagen@gmail.com listing your name, your address, your egg-count, and your vote for the house with the "Most Egg-cellent Display." Only one submission per household. Winners will be announced the following afternoon, Easter Sunday. If there is a tie, all winners will be put into a drawing and one winner will be drawn for each of the two gift certificates.

A HUGE THANK YOU to neighbors Bambi and Dan Offield for generously underwriting the cost of the two $100 gift certificates!

If you want to be an "Egg-cellent Home" displaying eggs...
Eggs can made of anything you have lying around the house and can be 2 or 3 dimensional. Some ideas that have been "egg-tossed" around so far: cut out of scrap plywood and wrapped in colorful fabric; trimmed out of cardboard (old Amazon boxes?) and decorated with paint, markers, glitter, buttons, whatever; made from egg-shaped balloons; crafted from crushed newspaper wrapped in masking tape, then decorated; you get the idea...

Eggs must be at least 12" tall (or taller) and placed so they are clearly visible from the street. Smaller eggs should not be incorporated into the display so there is no confusion as to "which eggs count." Try to place eggs within 35 feet of the street (or 10 long strides). Stand them up in your yard, in bushes, hang them from trees, set them onto your front porch (if it is visible), by your mailbox. You may place the eggs cleverly, but the intention is not to truly hide them or try to trick folks. If you're not sure your eggs are visible, walk out into the street and check!

By 8 p.m. Friday, April 10, send an email to danndagen@gmail.com listing your name, your address, and the number of eggs you will be displaying. This egg-count will be kept in a Top Secret Vault until the winners are determined! Should your egg-count change or you decide not to participate, please email any revisions no later than noon on Saturday.

By 10 a.m. Saturday morning, place your eggs on display. Don't forget to tape a sign on your mailbox that says "This is an Egg-cellent Home!" so that everyone will know you are one of the houses that are displaying eggs to be counted. The eggs may be removed any time after 6 p.m. Saturday.

Thank you for being an Egg-xtra Special Neighbor by creating and displaying eggs!

Snakes and Pets

As the weather warms up, we should consider how to protect our four-legged friends from the "slitherins" in our neighborhood.  If you haven't seen a snake, you've probably heard the copperhead/rattlesnake stories.  A few of you have lost your pets to their bite.  Did you know that your vet can vaccinate your pet to reduce the effect of a poisonous snake bite?  Check with your vet.  You can also make your yard less hospitable by keeping shrubs and brush trimmed and mow/mulch leaves in your yard.  Know your snakes.  Rat/bull snakes and owls will reduce the food source of the poisonous snakes so lets keep them around.  Round eyes-good; "Cat" eyes-bad.  I've heard lots a stories about my property and snakes(a guest was bitten our our porch). We cleaned up around the house and I've only seen 1 bad guy in the the loafing shed over the past two and a half years.  Take Care.  - The Taylors on Brush Creek

Getting a new roof?

Did you know you have to file a Property Modification Request before you begin - even if replacing with the same color?  PMR forms are here.
